Attempt to Smuggle 1.5 Tons of Meat Into Jerusalem Foiled
Attempt to smuggle 1.5 tons of meat into Jerusalem thwarted by Border Police near Hizma crossing. Suspect from eastern Jerusalem detained.
Jerusalem, 6 August, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Tuesday night, during what was described as a routine activity by Border Police in the area around Jerusalem, an attempt to smuggle about 1.5 metric tons of meats into Israel from the areas of the Palestinian Authority was foiled.
The commander of the Hizma crossing near Jerusalem raised suspicions regarding the structure of the truck that was being inspected there. A thorough inspection carried out by the fighters at the scene revealed a storage compartment hidden behind a double wall, inside which was found a large quantity of meat, estimated at one and a half tons.
The police said the initial investigation indicated that this involved smuggling meat from the territories to the territory of the State of Israel, which did not comply with the refrigeration and transportation conditions required by the Ministry of Health regulations.
The suspect, a resident of eastern Jerusalem, was transferred along with his vehicle and the seized meat for further investigation by the Central Enforcement and Investigations Unit at the Ministry of Agriculture.
